"Dangerous"     [sonnet impromptu 5]

The manic is at best   a strained amusement
the
vatic   is too orotund & high
these days   I dwell too much in word-enthusement!
though but a passing phase   I wonder why?

I'd taken to the habit   from my youth
it comes & goes   the custom of expression
the weft of words is dubious   in truth!
& even more so   blather & confession

a single word   perhaps should long suffice
a simple word like
maybe or   pell-mell
of course   such words as contumely are nice
but don't they cast   a dangerous kind of spell?
all lovey-dovey nonsense   is excessive!
so sensible's my poem   it's depressive

I agree with your condemnation of 'lovey-dovey' stuff as nonsense. Modern poetry cannot be held back with the gossamer threads of mushy nonsense. Please write a poem encouraging better Presentations at Business meetings. Thats contemporary and meaningful. Not Love.

ah Mr. Vasudev Murthy, isn't it withal an antique truism that the love-poetry poo-poor doth protest too much? In any case, while I'm happy to discover you find something to accord with in my trivial specimens of versification, I will confess that the prospect of pedagogical doggeral encouraging "better Presentations," as you (please excuse me here) frightfully suggest could leave me shaking in my boots -- had I boots (which coincidentally I do not). I'm partly thinking about the very dubious effect of the Powerpoint genre of visual presentation on thought, language, and culture itself (if culture can be said to comprise an "it" & to have a "self"). Well, it's possible this was your very point! If so, I agree entirely.

yours, then, in perfect accord,
d.i.
