"Keyings" (a villanelle)
What are we human beings?
a semblance of the true
such bindings & such freeings!
Our youings & our meings
well land us in a stew!
what are we human beings?
How subtle grow our gleeings
(I whisper "how are you?")
such bindings & such freeings
As yearnings seek for seeings
we sizzle through & through
what are we human beings?
The sheings & the heings
colliding points of view
with bindings & with freeings
O mountain goddess! keyings
of words were all for you
what are we human beings?
such bindings & such freeings!

a little lyric poem dashed off amid workday; yet happy with it, I'd initially "informally published" it on a literary discussion board (aka "network," hosted by Ryze, here villanelle {Caferati}), and now "memorialize" it on the present blog. In certain phases of life, I tend to compose poetry daily. Can't say to what extent I'll pour such effusions & efforts, effluents & effluvia into this e-space. Perchance to some modest degree...

Ah Max Saheb,
thanks for your kind words! May be waggish true, yet I shy away from a certain "proud superficiality" in work like Nash's. There's another (more recent) guy, John Frederick Nims, who has keen wit but more (for me) depth. (Maybe I've just not imbibed Nash in right time & setting.) Here anyway is an examle of this Nims chap (hadn't seen his work in ages, but your note brought it back to mind):

See what I mean? He's charming, funny, even quite sarcastic & bombastic, and he exaggerates like nobody's business. But in the end he goes for the jugular of real emotion & no-shit love.
Your note I'll take as encouragement to put up more poems here (when I've a chance) -- perhaps posting some of new scribbles as they appear. BTW, have you seen the amusing small play we're lately writing as a collective effort here? --

Yes, you are right. There's a wit and a certain comic timing in this one, but it also manages to speak clearly and concisely about the 'serious' stuff. That's something I admire!
