"pocketing Krishna" [light ghazal]
Today I pick up my passport in the afternoon
hailing local transport in the afternoon
to a metal window I submit a paper receipt
they unbar the gate of the airport in the afternoon
In days of yore to approach the earth of Hindustan
were more the work of a seaport than an afternoon
I cherish this dark-blue booklet (like pocketing Krishna)
& polish this lightweight report in the afternoon
Should Panvel Pune & Dilli soon unveil their nights
Ardeo could thank his passport in the afternoon

...hey! I won't complain)
someone (likely a someone)
likes my blog?
it's a cause for pleasure
(not amorphous pain)
Nice, nice! When are you touching our shores?
Okay, here's the lowdown.
My plane leaves Baltimore this Thursday (10 Nov.) arriving Mumbai just past midnight into Saturday (12 Nov.) [via London]. As mentioned in an earlier item here, I'll be spending most of my time immersed (as interested neophyte) in a dhrupad music workshop at Panvel (east of Mumbai): all dhrupad, all the time.
Prior to arriving at Panvel on evening of 14th Nov., I've a full little schedule -- joining Pune denizens of Caferati for their 1st anniversary "read-meet" in form of a trek up to Sinhagad Fort (and late-into-night reading atop the hill, apparently; I plan to intone some of these English ghazals). Prior to the evening trek, I anticipate a tour of Pune thanks to Punkar Max Babi; and the following day, I hie me away to a Pilgrim Center (retreat) at yonder Meherabad for a quiet day before the five-hour cab (I think) to Panvel into evening 14th. [thumbnail itinerary, thar] Also do plan a (too-quick) glimpse of Delhi at other end of the (too-quick) excursion (circa 1st Dec.): visiting a couple northern friends. Has been 19 years since I've been in India . . . time flies. But (as alluded to in my dhrupad gurukul blog-item), this trip is exploratory: hope is, next year I might manage to return for a more extended stay in India (and more in-depth dhrupad study period). Now that the (had-been-lost, US-reissued) Krishna is safe in pocket.
oops, I messed up the Max Babi link above. Well here's his (I suppose) paean to Pune.
