Form / Stream / Tow
[sonnet for Pragya]
Pragya Thakur -- you whose name
evokes the child whom God became
sometimes forms spring from of yore
else if new what's fresh they frame
take the sonnet -- sure it can be
in old pentamentric lines -- but see
elsewise at quatrametric length
the poem might sense its liberty?
or hexametric -- heck! (whatever)
rules are fashioned post-endeavor
forms come forth from poets first
& the poem becomes (afresh) a center
whence new possible streams might flow
listening close for the undertow
Responsive to a most engaging rumination about reading & appreciating poetry (and, to a degree, regarding poetic form).
