He had abandoned the study of philosophy years ago. He worked in a bookstore, though, and old habits die hard.

He tended to think of his customers as theorems, or syllogisms, or propositions in need of proof. Sometimes, he equated them more specifically.

When Plato sought to purchase a despicable potboiler, it gave him pause.
