In college, he'd studied chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and genetics. He'd been a pre-med.

Graduating, he'd begun earning his living as a typist -- which evolved into work as a word processor. He meanwhile nurtured other interests, none lucrative.

He'd now been at the patent law firm 14 years. Sometimes he drew chemical structures.
