  A thousand miles   is hard to comprehend
  a foot or two   is in my scope of reckoning

  I wonder   when you speak of distance   friend
  if this is but   a shadow darkly beckoning?

  a century   exceeds my certain grasp
  I think I hear   what lines the hours send

  at times   the voice of time is but a gasp
