"Frazzle"           [rubai / gatha]

If I should accomplish my aims     what then my beloved?

if weary I grow of your games     what then my beloved?

the story moves on     while the plotlines continue to frazzle

if the figures jump out of the frames     what then my beloved?

Well there are several possible readings I dare say!

Visually, I had in mind the way that, as a convention of miniaturist art, the Persian artists (and their Indian heirs) inevitably drew ornate borders around the scene being depicted, and then had some or another element breach the border -- venture somewhat beyond the edge of the (artificial) frame that defines the given space for the scene. It is a playful convention but also one with philosophical resonances (regarding the nature of narrative -- which, in a broader sense, involves such things as the nature of "life").

The "frames" (in the line of the poem) might be analogous to frames of film, frames of a cartoon novel, frames of the miniaturist's art....

All that said, it's true there's a hint of the suicidal in the verse, no doubt. Ideally, ego-layers get unpeeled amidst life -- as a more rarefied mode of "frame-jumping."
