Value in absentia         [rubai]

A joke without a punchline
                is not worth telling
life insurance to an immortal
                is not worth selling
    the thorns may be endured
for the beauty of the flower
yet a rose without aroma
                is not worth smelling

I appreciate you taking to the time to read my nonsensical poem and responding with one of your own. I'll visit often. Keep writing.

Thanks Sapere --
your poem, in the context of your interesting background note to River (involving what you call "Track 3" students), takes on a touching (perhaps mildly pathetic) quality. I wouldn't deem it meaningless, even if it might seem a tad maudlin.
One hopes that over time, you may share more complex poems with them as well. But rudiments are good things too!

cheers,
d.i.

I had all sorts of funny images in my mind when I read this! Jolyon Wagg trying to sell insurance to Zeus!
