A river     [half-carafe sonnet]

An unpunctuatable river flows
beyond the villa of commas and colons
past virgule and ampersand it goes
unstopped by period or semicolon

does its whisper elude all exclamation
(though earth & sky offer parentheses)
what question mark arrests information
it brings   what need for dashing emphases

it dare not halt till it espies the ocean
of silence wide and pure like its devotion
